Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
