Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he liked playing numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to play some serious chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some additional money by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he could boost his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus attention even more on the game.
The definite advancement in his skills happened when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would frequently compete against one another. He was able to access a number of the best players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his strategic thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL hold’em.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the greatest female players the poker world today. Howard moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
