Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha hi/lo begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another round of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few players often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in nearly all poker games.
The low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem difficult at the outset, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi/low offers an overwhelming range of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have numerous individuals battling for the high hand, and several trying for the low. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha hi lo.
