Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve last game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
