Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
