Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While gambling on online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
