Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts around the world. While playing online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world may be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
