Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
