Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players around the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
