Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While participating in online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world every now and then.
