Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he enjoyed betting on different card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these card games while playing his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to compete in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he played extensive hours and do not win a majority of the time. He earned some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he possibly could improve his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and concentrate more on the game.
The actual improvement in his abilities began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently compete against each other. Howard was able to access several of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking skills. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker world today. He relocated to Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
