Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he enjoyed betting on different card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little while and moved away to New York to play some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he played countless hours and lost most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus even more on the game.

The actual improvement in his skills began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would regularly wager against one another. Howard had access into several of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, he would hone his cunning thinking abilities. He applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL texas hold’em.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and competed in money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
