Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering follows and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where many players get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same approach in just about every poker game.
The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem complex at first, following a few hands you will be able to get the basic nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha hi-low offers an amazing assortment of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous players battling for the high, as well as a few trying for the low. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi-low.
