NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?


Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
