Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors in the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
